Phil Gray’s Panoramic Photographic Prints – Capturing Australia’s Splendour
Step into the breathtaking world of Australian landscapes, cityscapes, and iconic landmarks with this OPENING DAY DARLING HARBOUR No. 1 photographic print by acclaimed photographer Phil Gray. Known for his mastery of panoramic photography, Phil spent decades capturing the beauty and grandeur of Australia like no other. His journey began at Kodak on George Street, where he gained expertise in professional photography sales and technical advice. Later, his career took him to the Woomera Research Establishment, where he honed his skills as a stills photographer.
Phil’s passion for panoramic photography began in the late 1970s, drawing inspiration from the photographers of the 1920s and 1930s. When he couldn’t find the specialised equipment he needed to achieve the sweeping, full-view images he envisioned, Phil set to work designing his own panoramic camera. This one-of-a-kind camera, capable of fully rotating to capture 360-degree views, became his signature tool. To expand his perspective even further, Phil designed a custom helicopter mount, enabling him to capture stunning aerial panoramas with unrivalled clarity and depth.
A Pioneering Eye on Australia’s Landmarks and Celebrations
Phil’s first major project with this innovative setup was the Australian Bicentennial celebrations in 1988, where he created iconic images of Sydney Harbour’s festivities. These images, titled A Nation Celebrates No. 1 and A Nation Celebrates No. 2, remain cherished pieces of his collection.
Each photographic print by Phil Gray offers a fresh, immersive view of Australia’s beauty and diversity. With his unparalleled craftsmanship and unique equipment, Phil has captured sweeping views of the country’s vast landscapes, vibrant cities, and unforgettable celebrations, giving audiences around the world a chance to experience the true essence of Australia.
